This will be by far the shortest blog post we've written because this is just the quickest, easiest, most "why didn't I know this before" hack you can ever imagine.

We made the mistake of buying velvet chairs for our dining and breakfast rooms pre-kids. Several years later, we thought they were destroyed. Covered in spots from food, water, and who knows what else... until finding this hack. Check out some before and after photos below.

The best part? This took less than 1 minute per chair, and doesn't require anything expensive. All you need is a damp melamine sponge, a.k.a. a magic eraser. I prefer to buy this off-brand version on Amazon, as they are significantly less expensive and the exact same thing. At the time of publishing, they came out to just 70 cents per sponge.

Run the sponge under water until saturated, squeeze out until damp, and then lightly scrub any stained or spotted areas. Once the stains/spots are gone, I'll lightly run the sponge in a single direction to smooth out the material. That's it. Done. Enjoy the easiest cleaning job ever with oh so satisfying results!

Two final notes:

Depending on how damp the sponge is, the material should be dry within an hour or so, so make sure to give yourself ample time if cleaning before having guests over. No one wants to end up with a wet bottom! Lastly, while we have never had any issue with using a melamine sponge on velvet, we do recommend testing this out on a small area before really going for it to make sure that it will be safe on your specific fabric.
